June 8th, 2010 — beautiful & amazing finds, design inspiration
Yes, if we did have a Black Vogue what an amazing contribution to our black cuture it would be. It could still happen, we have a black president, or more homely a black family in the white house, who ever thought that would happen apart from Martin Luther King “I Had a Dream”.
Well when the time does come for us to see Black Vogue in our local newsagents, we will look no further than African Vogue Photographer & founder – MARIO EPANYA, and give him thanks for a talent that captures the essence of black people with a lens.

Karate Kid

Black Karate Kid – Congratulations greeting card
I created this design from feedback I received from a user visiting my website. She explained that her 7 year old daughter had just pass her red belt in Karate and she was over the moon. As a mother she felt very proud and wanted a greeting card that reflected this achievement.
I took her comments on board and created this greeting cards. The customer was happy with the deisgn and even sent me a photograph of her daughter holding her Karate certificate, which was really nice.

Pink Ice Skater

This image came from a sketch I did a while back. I do this quite often. I get ideas and roughly sketch them down and come back to then at a later date. It helps me free my brain of all the ideas swimming around.
I wanted this image to be very girlie pink. Deciding not to place it in a specific category worked best for many occasions would work with this design. Especially if the person receiving it was actively involved in ice skating. Personally I don’t see any black ice skaters on TV, there must be black people who are into ice skating for we all are different, want different things, do different things, achieve different goals, have different goals etc.. it would be nice to see this via a media which is on 24 7 365 (TV).
If you are involved in ice skating and would like to see more designs related to this area, just drop me a comment or feedback via the website.
Enjoy the design and enjoy life.

Hi All
African Golden Head Wrap

African Lilac Head Wrap

African Blue Head Wrap

How did I come to designing the African head dresses. I was looking at some old photographs of my son’s naming ceremony. An Naming ceremony is an African tradition which is like Christian christening , which was a beautiful event.
All the guests worn African attire, but only a few worn the matching head dress wrap. I thought that would be a nice greeting card to receive and it all started from there.
When I finished the image which took about 3 days to complete – I loved the finished piece so much that I had to duplicate it, by changing colours and patterns. There are 3 shades of skin tones and one with facial decoration. When I was tidying up the lay I accidentally clicked off the background layer and when I saw the effect I had to work with it. So that’s how the 3 designs below where achieved.

Like I said my inspiration come in many different forms and ways.
If you are interested in creating an African Head Dress I will update this post with links to some instructions soon.
I know and see quite a few different wrap styles, so take the basics and experiment. The fabric: there are many sites where you could purchase some really beautiful, vibrant, colourful patterns or you can use any fabric piece really. However I’m sure once you get the hang of creating your own wrap style, using the beautiful fabric I mentioned above will be a must.
Great fabric + a Great New Wrap Style = A Beautiful work of Art as a head dress.
Bye for now

Let me talk about the new images I created below:

The idea for theses images came from browsing a fashion pages.
The off the shoulder fashion items are great at exposing the neck of a lady, making her feel confident, beautiful and elegant all at once. I don’t own an off the shoulder dress personally but my long thin strappy number does the same job for me when it comes to feel on top of the world and owning it.
The curls & swirls section, I thought made the image tranquil and at peace hence the title name. I used the image with different hairstyles because Black people’s hair is so versitile. Straight, Afro, Twist, Dred, Cornrow, it’s all about the favour sista (quote taken from “Hairshow”, starring Monique).
I placed it in the Any Occasion section because I wanted you the buyer to have the choice on this event or occasion it was for.. I would send these designs for a Birthday, To say Thank You or To say Hi. However now i’m saying that and thinking miles ahead, some people do prefer a title, I could affer that as an extra service. See, writing and sharing my work with you triggers different, yet useful ideas.
However I leave this open to you, What do you think?
Would you like the option of chosing and occasion the card is for? Food for thought isn’t it.
Well I’ve finished here for today, Have a great day
